The Preliminary Task
In the preliminary task, I was in the exact same group as I was in our main media project. We work well as a group, but i think that we could have improved the preliminary task a lot. When we created the preliminary task, we learnt the 180 degree rule, shot-reverse-shot and Match on Action. We used all of them in the preliminary task, but we were not sure if they were appropriate enough. After we had looked at what we had produced, we thought of what we could have changed, and used them to make our horror film better.
Horror Film
We decided that we could use a cross cutting in our horror, to show the conversation between the young woman, and the young man. This would show the audience who is speaking. It also helped them realise it was a conversation, as it may have been unclear as they were in different rooms.
We also used Match on Action in our film production. We used this when Ollie, the young man, picked up a box off of the floor, and started to take it down the hallway. We then skipped a little bit of the action, and this was to use this technique, and it was useful as the audience would have assumed what had happened. We used this again when the young woman of the film sees something in the mirror, and we slightly skip a bit to when she goes into the room to look for whatever she saw.
The group also decided to include an 180 degree rule, and this was used when the young man puts the book into the box in the kitchen. This shows where he has put the book, and shows the audience the features of the book.
So overall, i have learnt a lot through the duration of my media projects. have learnt how to use the 180 degree rule, shot-reverse-shot and Match on Action appropriately, and i believe i have a good understanding of certain shot types, and when its appropriate to use them. I have also increased my knowledge in how to plan efficiently, as i think it is the most important part of a film, as well as doing research.
Above is the Match on Action we used in our preliminary task.
